Topic 2.3 - classifying living things

In this topic we will look at how we classifying living things using the Bionomial Nomenclature model created by Linnaeus.
Students will need to memorise the 7 groups that we use to classify living things. It is recommended that students come up with their own mnemonic to create a saying so that they can memorise all 7 in the correct order which is very important.
The 7 groups are:
Kingdom
Phylum
Class
Order
Family
Genus
Species
A mnemonic that I suggested in class is Keep Placing Chocolate Orders For Good Students. Students can use this one or create their own.
Students will be taught how Scientific Names work and why we use them to classify living organisms. To assist learning on this topic there is a PowerPoint presentation link below which covers what students will be taught in this topic. Students are welcome to bring a printed copy of the PowerPoint presentation to class to assist their learning (I suggest printing 3 slides and having lines to write notes on each page to save paper and ink.
