about mr couzens
My name is Mark Couzens and I am currently a student at Murdoch University. I am studying a Graduate Diploma in Secondary Education specialising in Science. I completed a Bachelor of Science majoring in Geology at the Adelaide University in 2003 and went on to complete Honours at the Australian School of Petroleum majoring in Geology and Geophysics. In 2004 I worked for ExxonMobil in Melbourne but left this office based job 6 months later to pursue my passion for field based geology roles. In 2006 I worked at Beverley Uranium Mine in South Australia as a Exploration Geologist where I was on the team that found the multi-million dollar Four-Mile uranium deposit. In 2008 being very ambitious I left this job to pursue higher geology positions where I started working as a Senior Geologist specialising in Uranium exploration for smaller exploration companies
With continued exploration success I worked my way up to the position of Exploration Manager for all Australian and Argentinean Projects for a company called Cauldron Energy. In this role I discovered numerous multi-million dollar uranium deposits in Western Australia. I have also worked on various copper, gold, lead and zinc projects across Australia and Overseas. I have also been exposed to the international corporate world where I managed and led meetings and field visits with large Chinese and South Korean business consortium's. I was also the company technical specialist who led the technical discussions with some of the worlds most renowned Nuclear Scientists representing major companies seeking investment opportunities in the uranium projects.

One of the main reasons that I have chosen to leave my professional career in mineral exploration to pursue teaching is to encourage the next generation of Scientists to realise how much potential they have and assist them in achieving their most vivid and wildest dreams and goals. Videos like this link are tools that I will constantly be showing to students to get them thinking NOW about what they want to achieve in the future and what they need to do to be able to fulfill this.
